Your First IV Therapy Session: What to Expect at Opulent
IV therapy is one of the most commonly asked-about services at Opulent — not because people are unsure if they want it, but because they are unsure what to expect. The reality is that the experience is far more comfortable and unremarkable than most first-timers anticipate. This practical guide walks you through everything that happens during a typical visit so you arrive knowing exactly what to expect.
Before You Arrive
No fasting is required before IV therapy, though arriving reasonably hydrated will make vein access easier and more comfortable. Wear clothing with sleeves that roll up easily — short sleeves or a loose long-sleeved top work best. We recommend eating something light beforehand, particularly for first-time clients, to minimize the small chance of lightheadedness. Plan for 45–75 minutes at the office from arrival to departure, depending on the formula you have chosen.
Check-In and Formula Selection
When you arrive, you will complete a brief intake form covering your current health status, any medications, allergies, and your goals for the session. A member of our medical team reviews this form before you receive any treatment. If you have not pre-selected a formula online, your provider will walk you through the options and help you choose based on what your body most needs that day — whether that is immune support, athletic recovery, hydration, or something else.
The IV Placement
A licensed medical professional places a small catheter — similar in size to a standard blood draw needle — into a peripheral vein, usually in the forearm. Most clients rate the discomfort as a 1-2 out of 10, lasting only the few seconds of placement. Once the catheter is secured with medical tape, you will not feel the needle at all for the remainder of the session. If you have a known history of difficult vein access, let us know in advance and we will take additional steps to ensure your comfort.
During Your Infusion
- You will sit or recline in a comfortable chair while the drip runs at a controlled, medically calibrated rate
- Bring your phone, headphones, a book, or a laptop — most clients work or relax during the session
- Your provider checks on you periodically throughout — if you feel anything unusual at any point, simply let them know
- Session length ranges from 30 minutes for simpler formulas to 60 minutes for premium multi-ingredient drips
- Mild warmth at the IV site, a slight taste of vitamins, or a brief flushing sensation are all normal
After Your Session
The catheter is removed quickly and painlessly, and a small bandage is applied. You are free to leave immediately and return to all normal activities — there is no recovery time or downtime. Most clients notice improved energy and clarity within a few hours; effects from some formulas (particularly immune support drips) build over 24-48 hours. We recommend staying well-hydrated for the remainder of the day to support your body in using the nutrients delivered.
